I guess they have kind of a "cool" factor about them, but I'm not sure what advantages they really offer. OK, you're higher so maybe less chance of being bothered by critters. But it seems like there are a lot of downsides too. Like, you can't really leave your tent sent up and drive around to see stuff. Or that it really limits the equipment you can have inside the tent. I have a large family (lot of people, not invidividually large), so that kind of tent wouldn't make sense unless maybe it was just my wife and I on a trip.
