I don't doubt that, when they are sober. But what if they are drunk and in a highly emotional/tense situation...
where a physical altercation can easily happen, such as at a college football game in Arkansas? You don't think it's possible that having the gun could lead to some thing bad happening that would not have happened if they didn't have the gun? Sure, they might get their butt kicked without it, and that would suck, but it's probably a better outcome than someone being shot dead.
