Couldn't resist the snark opportunity. You make a good point about the economy.
There are a lot of additional expenses we just didn't have in the late 80's starting out (cell phones & internet & sattelite). Those things we did have took a smaller portion of our income in many cases. Mortgage rates were much higher however.
