For those years, the teams were very equal athletically. You can argue that 2010 and 2012 were just bad luck, and I think there's a good argument to be made there, but the bottom line is that Whittingham and his players did just enough to put their team in a position to win and Bronco and his players did not. 2010 and 2012 came down to the last play, but in 2011 and 2013, the outcome was never really in question, despite the close score in 2013.

In 2015, it was turnovers. I don't care if you're Alabama... Giving the ball away 5 times in the first quarter and allowing the other team to race out to 35-0 lead is almost always going to be impossible to recover from.

In 2016, and I hate to say this because I don't like the direction it's trending, Utah was just the more talented team. Our offense was anemic, and while the defense was very good and made plays to keep us in the game, the offense, outside of Taysom's scrambling, couldn't do anything against Utah's D. If a team is +3 in turnover margin and can't win, that's not good. Despite the offensive woes, though, Kalani coached well enough that he had the team in a position to win at the end, but Utah just made one more play than we did.

I think that Kalani is a much better coaching match up for Whittingham than Bronco ever was, and I think we've got a really good chance to break the streak and get a win this fall.
