a nd if BYU was so open to doing this, then why in the world would they not have done it with the like of Bolles, or Lotulelei, etc. etc. they could have had a plethora of sure thing linemen if they were willing to bend the entrance rules.

BYU is part of the NCAA and abides by their governing rules as it pertains to athletics. That is the only way to stay part of the NCAA. BYU can change their own academic standards since they are private but they can't be lower than the minimum NCAA standards.

BYU, Stanford, Purdue, Duke, etc. all have a higher academic requirement for students as a whole. if they chose to lower those standards for athletes, that is their right, but at no point can they lower those standards to below the minimum NCAA requirements.
