I imagine they would hire her right away as an "LOA" which stands for Letter of Authorization.
That means that she can begin working right away based on her current credentials on a year to year basis. The state then gives you a certain amount of time (usually 3 years) to complete any of the necessary requirements to become certified. If this is for elementary, she would most likely need an educatio class or two and pass the Praxis exam. There's also the new alternative route to teaching certification the legislature just passed last year but I'm less familiar with those requirements.
The school should be able to help or see what you can explore and find on the USOE website. Believe it's USOE.gov
