The career offices at business schools have their own agendas that are often not
aligned with the interest of the student. They care about placement and wage increase first. Then they care about diversification of industries, big name companies, placement locations. All of these metrics give them better leverage when marketing the business school.

If everyone stays in Utah after graduation, then it's harder for the Marriott school to broaden their recruiting pool. So it's no surprise that they would be encouraging their students to broaden their horizons.
