It's not the type of offense where a true freshman is ideal for a starter. Competing when one is a junior or so and the other is brand new, isn't close to the same thing as two QBs coming in at the exact same time, competing for their whole 4 year career.
McKee will do his time learning, and then have the chance to take over. That's how it is everywhere in case you've never watched a game of college football before.
