its about the same as last year. about same number of good opponents, but fewer
sexy names. last year there were 3 P5 opponents in the non-conference schedule (USC, Colorado, and Illinois). Colorado disappointed last season and was not even a bubble team. Illinois was a long-shot bubble team and did not make the tourney.

This season there are 2 P5 opponents - Alabama and Utah. Bama is on its way up with Avery Johnson as coach. Utah will probably be a tough game, but they lost Kuzma.

The overall number of good teams is about the same. UT-Arlington, Princeton, Illinois St. from this year's schedule were all about top 50 teams last season. But they are not sexy games. Its smart for BYU to sign games with teams like Illinois St. Illinois St.'s coach was frustrated last year by going 28-7 but being left out of the tournament. Their coach said, how can we play a tougher schedule if noone will play us.

The problem is that BYU continues to think they need a few guaranteed home games, so they continue to schedule games like Miss Valley, Idaho St., Texas Southern, and Niagra. These are one-and-dones. They do this every season.

We already have too many WCC games like that . The only breather games for the non-conference should be the in-state games like Weber and UVU.
