Although technically the 8-track wasn't in "my" home, it was a holdover I found at my Grandma's and started playing with it.
I ended up with my Grandpa's Beta player. It's too bad it was broken and the family discarded his entire Beta library (essentially an excellent collection of everything Masterpiece/Mystery has aired on PBS since the early 80s) since they assumed "nobody could fix the player." Man, even if you couldn't "fix" it, you could source one on Ebay, and I have all of the gear available to port the library over to MP4, so it would have been a ton of fun to cull through.
Too bad. Now I'm left with a broken player but none of the media. .
The Beta Format was actually really good, but like most things in this world, the best necessarily doesn't "win out" or receive top market share.
