but I was okay with the extension offered to Cassar. It was only a year and the continuation beyond that was a team option. I don't think Cassar lost his job during the 2016 season. I really think it was his handling of the off-season and especially handling of the camp. Many of our early season injuries can be, at least partially, blamed on his early trainings and his prep for the season. He also was too involved in conditioning and pulled the training staff under him too much making decisions that should have been independent of the coach.

So even though many of us wanted him gone after last season I don't think that he'd done enough in the eyes of Waibel and Hansen to warrant a dismissal. However, their observations of the preseason and first few games did. If you look at it that way you might see the front office as acting quickly to right a wrong.
