529's suck - way too many restrictions and almost no guarantees
I'm amazed anyone uses them. Factor in the mandatory fees and your returns will stink. I used a whole life policy instead for my kids and it has worked perfectly. Still some costs but zero market risk and very predictable results.

Oh and best of all you get 100% tax free access to the money for anything. Won't be able to use 529 money for a mission.

Just insure them (it will be super cheap because they are so young) and max it out the first 5 years and then just pay minimums. That's what I did.

When they went to college there was plenty to pay for it and the policies were growing very steady. I told my kids if they could earn money or scholarships and not use it, I would give the policy to them when they graduate.

First graduate got over $30k and second one is on track to get close to $75k (hasn't used a dime yet) as a graduation present.

Bm if you want more details. This must be set up right to work this way. Not just any policy will work.
