I've read Hans' reply and can accept it at face value, but I can see why it would be frustrating to hear an interview like that from a former player/alum. I'm sure it would affect my perception of them too.
I'm out of state and don't listen to Hans' show. I've no desire to hear from Gunther on anything. When I consume Hans-related media, it's because I'm hand-selecting something that looks interesting. I think some of his video break down of games are really good. I liked him a lot as a player at BYU.
BYU is not above criticism, and I take issues with certain things from time to time. Having lived around the country a bit, I also think that many of our alums are some of the most tolerant and welcoming of people of different races and backgrounds that I've encountered anywhere. And that definitely includes folks who like to lecture the rest of us on being tolerant, etc.
I like Hans, based off of what I've seen and heard. I hope he's able to be a credible and entertaining voice without letting his alma mater get thrown under the bus.
