I see examples of this even around my 8 and 7 yr olds age groups.
Just the other day when getting ready for their football game my two sons happen to have byu gear with them. One had on a T shirt and the other was tossing around a byu kids football. A group of lily white Mormon kids (some teammates) who come from active LDS homes start razzing my kids for exposing themselves as byu fans. There were about 6 of them... after a few seconds of razzing my sons they all walked away from my sons saying they couldn't be around byu fans.

20 yrs ago when byu was the better program kids would have been razzing the rare Ute fans. But the tables turned about 7-8 yrs ago it not before that.

Quick sidenote. I live in one of the most highly concentrated Mormon communities in Utah and I'm blown away with how 70% or better of those who advertise themselves as sports fans don Ute garb, have Ute bumper stickers, sings/flags in their yards.

These last 7-10 years have been brutal to byu football.
