Oh and you can almost always get a prompt payment discount for your portion once the bill is known, yesterday I saved $1,000. 20% is standard.
Finally, never ever forget that the bilking (oops... billing) department is providing you a service that the hospital and/or physician aren't generally obligated to provide, so be nice.
