RE: How long is the typical rehab time for a achilles injury? Game action ready?

It usually takes one full year to recover from a fully ruptured Achilles Tendon injury.  This can depend on how severe the tear was.  I have only read in one place that it was a rupture.  Most places only state that it was an "injury to his Achilles."  I ruptured mine last year.  It was the anniversary to the exact day of my shoulder reconstrction surgery.  That was a very bad day.

I would not say that the injury itself is painfull.  The atrophy is horrendous.  No weight on the leg for six weeks and then you are in a boot for two to three more weeks after that.  Most people still have a noticeable limp at six to sometimes eight months after the injury.  I read a study that looked at quite a few NBA players that ruptured theirs and only about half ever made it back to play, and only one really as good as before.  That was Kobe.

I would rather go through another grade four shoulder separation than through another Achilles injury.  The shoulder hurts more, but heals faster.

This is my first post on CB.  I have been lurking for years.  I want to wish Tanner Mangum the best in his recovery.  When you get injured you go through all sorts of emotions afterwards.  It's the mental part that worries me.  He has already admitted to having depression, that may only make it harder to recover.  I pray for him and my heart goes out to him just like it did for Taysom last year.
