Based on the information that has been reported, these violations are a nothing-burger. NCAA violations can be a big deal when they entice a recruit to go to a university or they entice a player to sign with an agent for professional representation. They are also a big deal when the university is complicit in the violations. None of those serious violations apply here.
What we know is that Emery took some extra benefits from a family friend who also happens to be a cougar club member. The value of those benefits is less than $5000, maybe much less, and have all been repaid. The NCAA was not going to drop the hammer on Emery. The NCAA side of this story is a side show.
