...do you really think Grimes would take a pay cut to assume bigger head aches as an OC? The level of accountability and blame increases by several orders of magnitude when you reach the coordinator level. Grimes had it made as an OL coach and if he was on the way out at LSU he would land on his feet at any number of sweet gigs in the p5. OL Coaches toil in relative anonymity and at half a mil or more a year he had no reason to upset the apple cart of his career for a pay cut and then take on all the headaches that would come from a fan base with famously huge unrealistic expectations.
As for the present coaching staff being about to destroy Lavell’s legacy, you’re too late. That was already done during the last coaching staff’s tenure. Lavell’s legacy was dead and buried by Bronco and it is an easy argument to make that his legacy had actually transferred to Utah under Bronco’s watch. Bronco had alienated way too many former Lavell era players and paved the way for them to send their kids to go play football at Utah under Whitt. Between legacy players joining his coaching staff and sending their kids to play for him, Whitt elevated Utah over BYU as the hip/cool place to play for the best of LDS talent.
