Not the Wasatch front, but not far away. Kelly Canyon, near Idaho Falls, has
the least expensive and smallest groups for kids lessons in the area that I've seen. They also have some great green trails for the kids once their lessons are over (although I prefer Alta's green trails for the kids).
The four Cottonwood Canyon resorts, Sundance, and Park City all cost more than double for an 8-person lesson than what Kelly Canyon cost for a private lesson. It seemed like all the smaller Utah resorts (Beaver Mountain and Snow Basin) fell somewhere in between. Also, as of a week ago, the snow in Idaho was MUCH MUCH better than in Utah. We were up at Brighton a few days before Christmas and the few trails that were actually open were man-made snow tracks surrounded by dirt.
I'm not trying to glorify Kelly Canyon, it's a small resort, nothing like Utah's big resorts, but it was perfect for taking our kids skiing over the holidays.
