I just don't want to use the eye test to make that determination. At the time the selection was made, OSU had the #28 SOS and USC had the #16 SOS. Bama had the #56 SOS. Even Wisconsin had a better SOS (albeit not by much, as they were #50) and they only had 1 loss, and they lost in the championship game, not prior. So if you want to put in a 1-loss team, Wisconsin deserves it more than Bama. Bama's best win is #17 LSU and their only other ranked win is #23 Miss. St. Wisconsin played a terrible schedule too, but they beat #21 Northwestern and they didn't play an FCS team, plus the middle (the "grind") of the schedule is better.
