It's all relative though
Last year, BYU held their opponents to one of their worst 5 offensive efficiencies of the season in 12 out of 34 games, or 35%.

This year, BYU is currently holding their opponents to one of their worst 5 offensive efficiencies of the season in 10 out of 18 games, or 55%.

How? They've improved their adjusted defensive efficiency by almost 4 points per 100 possessions. In a season where teams are making more 3s and scoring more points from 3 as a percentage of total points, BYU has improved from being worse than average to better than average.

Their assists per made FG has dropped which means they are closing out on shooters better at the cost of letting people score at the rim more. They've upped their turnover percentage and have their highest block percentage in Dave Rose's career. IOW, their getting more hands on the ball on defense.

I think this means they're being more aggressive on the perimeter with the goal of funneling more people inside the 3. What's odd is their high 2-point FG% combined with our high block percentage. Only one other team in the top 64 of block percentage (Pacific) has given up a higher 2-point FG%. But, they have given up a much higher 3PFG% than us.

Our problem is that Gonzaga and SMC are both top 15 in 2PFG% on offense. Alabama, Princeton, UTA, Utah, UVU, Utah State and Weber State (#22) are all top 100 in 2PFG%. I have a feeling that divergence between 2FG% and block% is going to correct over the course of the conference season.
