Part of the difference is that GT is a lot like Navy and Air Force.

The academic prestige of Tech is pretty high, so they can get a lot of those highly-intelligent guys, to go along with athletes from being in a P5 conference. Arizona's academic prestige is... less high. Ken N. would have been a better fit at BYU than Arizona, IMO, but he's a good coach and I think he'll do okay there.
