1) 2 out of the last 750 elite recruits (25 years X top 30 players...so maybe 3 if we count Meads) are LDS.
2) There have been few LDS NBA players in the last 25 years, and most have been fringey or role player types.
3) When I look at the recruiting classes of the top 30 or so programs year after year, I don't see many (or any) years where we could take all the best BYU-eligible athletes and create a top 10 class.
Basketball is trending more and more to the length/speed/quickness and even high level recruits we've missed (sans JP/FJ) don't fit that bill (like Jesse Wade).
Maybe your comment was made more for football? Poly's in D1 basketball aren't frequent outside the Wesley family, and African American LDS basketball players that contribute at a high level in D1 I can count on two hands from the modern era.
What are you seeing that I'm missing? (feel free to simply link past posts...genuinely curious)
