It's not about the players as much as what the rules allow. In the modern NBA
you aren't really allowed to play tough defense. In particular, a guy like Durant is essentially untouchable. The NBA has decided they want lots of high scores and gaudy stats and splashy offensive highlights to appease the fans, and they have made rule changes accordingly. Durant would have been good in the 80's, but a lot tougher to get easy shots off when rules allow for tougher defense.
