You're more likely to get somewhere talking to the prosecuting attorney instead
of the police. Once the arrest is made, decisions on what to do with the evidence typically rests with the prosecuting attorney. Find out who is prosecuting the case and ask if they need the evidence to prosecute the crime. Offer to sign an affidavit stating that the property is yours and was stolen. Offer to testify in the affidavit that photos of the property are accurate photos of what was stolen. Offer to help out the prosecutor with his case that way, and he might be willing to release evidence that he might otherwise need to prosecute the case.
