Much of the hard work was done by BYU in the 80's and 90's. They laid the groundwork for the final offer to the G5's for the BCS inclusion bone.
Timing is everything. And BYU was the team that beat on the door hard enough to crack it, so that others could walk through.
It is true that Utah had 2 BCS appearances, but without BYU getting snubbed over the years, those opportunities never arise for them. Would be fascinating revisionist history to see what would have happened without those BYU teams when Utah went undefeated. They would likely be the team then that put the final crack in the door that opened it for other G5's. Where's Marty McFly when you need him?
