46 million is not the correct number. That blogger probably didn’t know
that you don’t have to try to figure out what a school spends on athletics. Schools are required to give that data to the department of education and it is reported publicly. For the most recent year available, BYU had 62 million in revenue and spent 54 million on athletics. That revenue was the highest for a non-P5 and is actually pretty close to the lower tier P5s.

I’m not saying money isn’t an issue for BYU. Obviously it would be better if they had more. But what’s interesting to see when you look at the numbers is that there is a huge gap between the P5s. Miami's revenue is much closer to BYUs than it is to Texas, and yet who performed better in FB last year? Texas and Texas A&M are the biggest money makers by far and are not producing playoff caliber teams. BYU makes more money than UCF and UCF went undefeated last year and beat a much richer Auburn. Money is important, but not everything.
