Thoughts on the key to winning at SMC on Thursday:
STOP LANDALE . . . . . . . . . . or at least slow him down!

Play a similar game to what was played in December. Match them in FG% and stay close in rebounding. Play consistent solid D like we did in the last game, EXCEPT for - - - - - - Don't allow Landale to shoot 86% for crying out loud!

Our guys won't really stop him, but they can do better than allowing him to go 13/15 from the floor. He was hardly double teamed at all in that game. If he would have hit even one less shot, BYU would likely have won the game.

Lately Haws has been helping out on some double teaming tall centers --- it has helped. As a tall center gets the ball just outside the key and cuts toward the hoop with his back to the basket Haws has been backing off his man and sticking his hand into the mix, knocked a few balls loose. It's worked a number of times. More double teaming will cut down Landale's FG% and frustrate SMC's offense in general. Landale can't be allowed to own the key offensively.

It's a coaching issue in large part. In the last game the announcers mentioned several times that part of BYU's game plan was to not double-team Landale, trying to keep our guys out of foul trouble.

Something needs to be done differently this time around to cut down on Landale's effectiveness in the key. More double-teaming, more trying to deny him the ball. Our guys defended against rest of SMC's team rather well, holding them below their average on 3-point shots.

Landale is an outstanding low post player but he can and must be slowed down more than he was in the last game.
