Interesting quote from Lamb:
“We needed to find a way for Kalani to still be Kalani but still instill discipline and teach leadership. We were not interested in sitting around griping about a team that lacked leadership. It is 100 percent our job to create leaders, create discipline, to create culture. Kalani has put in some real good programs to get that done."

We know that both "Player's coaches" and non "Player's coaches" can succeed in football. The key is for whichever style the HC has, he surrounds himself with assistants or OCs that are opposite.

Lavell was great as a players coach, but look at who was around him in French and Chow. Those guys had the fire and discipline. Bronco was a bit more of a disciplinarian of course, but had guys like Autuia, Beck, and Poppinga on staff that could help balance that out a bit.

Whether the blame be on Kalani or on someone like Lamb/Tuiaki I'm not sure. But if Kalani is going to be himself, then his assistants and coordinators need to be the disciplinarians and teaching accountability.

It can work, it just needs balance.
