Believe it or not, things are moving back in that direction
Our company has a new customer service system that forces support people to log off their phone when they leave their desk and back in when they return so they know what their coverage looks like at all times. I work in IT/IS and can see them forcing us to do the same thing in the name of assuring support coverage.
