The Big East (now the AAC) invited BYU, Air Force, landed Boise and SDSU

and talked to UNLV and Fresno State.

SDSU wanted to stay in the AAC, if only it could find an acceptable home for its Olympic sports. But, what if the AAC brought in western Olympic sports? Add Boise, SDSU, and 2 of Air Force, UNLV, CSU or Fresno St. for all sports (two 8-team divisions for football) plus BYU and Gonzaga for Olympic sports (and a scheduling and bowl affiliation with BYU football).
