Apparently, BYU runs in the black by a few million each year.
The Brethren have mandated BYU Athletics be self sufficient. The extra money means BYU Athletics stays in the black and isn't at risk of being done away with like at Ricks and BYU-H. Losing even 5 million in revenue puts that at risk.

The money is really secondary. The bigger issue is simply rubbing elbows with the P5 elite as a fellow conference
