During the exit of BYU to independence, as the story goes, BYU tried to completly undercut the MWC by trying to convince the higher profile teams to return to the WAC. Ultimatly this would have left the mountain time zone teams struggling to find a home for their programs as the MWC would have died. It was either the WAC that died or the MWC and the MWC made the moves to take the cream of the crop from the WAC and submarined that conference and ultimatly BYU's plot.
