I would bet that the church has the statistics on decline in accidents since
implementing the rule. I would guess that the majority of accidents were teenage drivers backing into stationary objects.
About a dozen or so years ago, the missionaries where I was living at the time were in a companionship of three with one of them being a greenie. The two trainers had him going for about a month that he also had to wear his bike helmet when he was standing back there waving them out. It was funny seeing that poor elder standing out there in the parking lot with his bike helmet on waving them out. He was pretty mad when he figured out that it was just a joke.
