Now this is just wrong
The slowest traffic should be in the far right lane, it isn't a lane reserved for people who get on the freeway slowly. This is what causes the issues mentioned above, people who are going slow get in the second (and often middle lane) because they feel like you do — that the right lane shouldn't be used. This causes people going slightly faster than them (maybe about the speed limit) to go in the left lane.

This idea that the right lane is some type of lane for people just getting on/off the freeway is what ends up causing a lot of congestion. In fact, what typically ends up happening is that it causes the fastest drivers to drive in the right lane because it is the only one "open" — making it even more hazardous for people entering and exiting the freeway. In fact, my brother used to comment that Utah is the only state where you can drive faster in the far right lane than the far left — of course, that was a couple of decades ago, now that seems to be common in lots of places.
