Make sure whatever doctor or psychologist you go to has some form of actual experience with ADHD beyond reading a paragraph about it in a textbook. Many general practice physicians will throw a diagnosis of ADHD without much actual backing. It can then become a crutch/excuse when it isn't even really there.
