and not having to earn it, basically saying that was a mistake and sort of casting a stone at Tanner. I think this is a comment in hindsight and not generally helpful. Tanner had earned the job coming off his freshman season and sitting out his Soph season. I don't think there was a person alive who thought the competition should have been open with Hoge as of last fall.
