Part of the draw to Stanford is the Pac 12. Part of the reason the Pac 12 looks even more attractive to traditional BYU recruits is because BYU has not able to beat a middle tier Pac 12 team traditional rival since they moved to the Pac 12. At the same time Utah, that team, has yearly games they win against Stanford, USC, Oregon etc. Doesn't mean they are the best team in the PAC 12 but they are competing. The fact that Utah is not stealing every BYU recruit does not mean that losing to them is not a major part of the reason kids are choosing other schools.
