You clearly have never coached football. Bringing guys along slowly is a practice that
has been done for decades in both football and baseball. In baseball its why often a big prospect stays down in the minors longer than some think because they know that if they bring him up too soon he may never recover from a disastrous start.
In football, with QB's they often try to groom them so that they can learn and then become a reliable QB that wins games.
