Had a funny experience similar to this.
We were at the Bishop's house watching the rivalry game last year, we live on the east coast. There was a dude there who wasn't from the USA but decided to join in anyways.
Someone asked him who he rooted for in spite of not going to either school. His response with 100% seriousness and no really appreciation for what he said: "I'm a faithful member of the church, so I'd guess BYU." There weren't many Utes in attendance but it was pretty funny.
