RE: Good words from Stan Lee.
Bigotry and racism are bad. They are evil, just as any form of hatred is evil.

I have a problem with how the following statement could be interpreted in today’s environment:

“The only way to destroy them is to expose them...to reveal them for the insidious evils they really are”

Is he talking about exposing bigotry and racism or about bigots and racists? This is key. If he is discussing exposing evil feelings within yourself and getting rid of them, I’m all on board. If he’s talking about exposing racists and bigots, I disagree.

Here’s why (paraphrasing Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn):

“If only we could identify all the [racists and bigots]...if only it were that easy. Then we could point to them and round them up and do away with them. But it’s not that simple. There river that divides good and evil runs right down the heart of every man.”

Each person needs to work on their OWN heart. That’s the only heart you have the power to change. Others can be influenced to change, but this is not likely to occur by ‘outing’ them as racists or confronting them in a public way.

There have been far too many good people called ‘racist’ by people who are only seeking to win a political debate by framing their opponent with a label they must now disprove. It’s disgusting. It’s thought-policing. It’s tyranny.
