Couple points. A) Thank you for responding. I now understand why you said you disagreed with the quote.
B) I think it is clear from the quote he is talking about the ideas racism and bigotry, not individual racists and bigots. I think the "expose them for the evils they really are" provides the necessary context to show he is talking about the ideas.
