The theory was the high-top b-ball shoes would help decrease ankle injuries.
This is the most common type of injury in basketball. Problem is that there is not real evidence to prove this one way or another. Some now suggest that the if the high-top does help with decreasing ankle injuries, then it must contribute to knee injuries as the force must go somewhere. There are other reasons the low-top is increasing in popularity as well that has to do with style and weight, but this is less important in my mind.
