in high tops when I was younger. I have still rolled my ankle a couple of times in the Kobes but probably about 5-10% of what I used to. A friend was at the Nike factory (several years ago when the low tops were being introduced) where they have a test court with players paid to try out new designs and the Nike guys were telling him that they the shoes today have support and structure in places that help reduce ankle rolls. He said that the low tops today will dramatically reduce ankle rolls compared to high tops from before.
I just wish my favorite basketball shoe wasn't named after one of my least favorite players.
