My wife had an experience a few months ago. She went on a trip with
some friends to England to hit some of the famous literary locations in the UK since she is a writer. She had been to many of the locations, so she decided to spend a few days on the island of Guernsey. Her first day there, she was walking around just enjoying the experience of being there when she saw a woman who was standing next to a fence post clutching it with her eyes closed. A few people on the sidewalk just passed her without a single thought, but my wife thought she appeared to be in distress. She approached the woman and asked her if everything was okay, and as soon as she put her hand on the woman's shoulder, the woman started to shake and have a seizure and couldn't keep a hold of the post. My wife tried to hold her up, but she was unable to/ She collapsed with my wife trying to keep her from banging her head on the pavement. As she cradled her head, she started to shout to ask someone to call emergency. Someone stopped to call for an ambulance, and a few more people approached. A woman saw my wife cradling this woman's head as she continued to have the seizure and said she knew her "Emma" and immediately started to call the woman's mother.

The ambulance came, and the EMTs began their service to Emma. While my wife was freed from her burden and while she was shaken from the experience, she was also grateful she was there at the right time to help this woman.

I think we often have people or situations put in our paths that give us the opportunity to provide some sort of service or help, both for the benefit of them and us. I totally understand not wanting to make the woman feel embarrassed or conscious about her state, but I also think these are opportunities for us to show our better selves.
