I think it is more player development that is bleeding into recruiting

Look, all things being equal, Rose recruits at a high level. He gets quite a bit of Top 100 recruits, even now. The LP 3 were national recruits. Yes, he lost out on Jabari Parker and Frank Jackson. But, Yoeli was also a national recruit, non-LDS that Coach Rose went and won. Dastrup was a huge recruiting win. Baxter and Harding were also 4 star guys. He is getting mostly stud recruits.

His problem has been developing and keeping those talents. I am not trying to get into why guys left or who was at fault. But Chatman, Dastrup, Mika, Bryant, Jake Toolson are all really talented players that Rose got in recruiting but they lost confidence in the program and player development.

It is just in the last couple of classes that we are seeing recruiting misses of obtainable talents. Jesse Wade should have been a Cougar from the jump. Isaac Johnson is a big miss. I like Knell and Erickson but there are other guys that are just not up to this level. Worthington and Lee are just out of their depth. Nixon doesn't have the skill or athleticism to play at this level as he is a terrible shooter and cannot finish at the rim, despite being a great glue guy with hustle, defense and rebounding.

The last few years classes were all 4 star guys that looked the part. Now, the lack of development is leading to guys who look out of place even against opponents like Weber State.
