The brokers and trucking companies we use attribute this to several factors, one of which is a big shortage of drivers. Some of the shortage is due to the electronic log book regulations recently put into place, some because of an aging driver base, some due to very low unemployment in general.

Regardless, it's leading to increasing freight rates and longer times to find those trucks. Autonomous trucks may eventually happen, but it won't happen soon enough to improve the current shortage.
