Why? I am new to the CB so I am confused at all the contradictions I read in

posts about the recruiting at BYU.  A lot of people post BYU needs to recruit better and get the next level players or the top level talent...  Then in the next post someone says offer xyz (like Boone Abbott) already.  Why do they do this to a kid.  Why do you think they should offer a kid who is most likely not going to make it at the FBS D1 level but then again we all hope the underdog will make it?  Coaches have been recruiting for years and in most cases know who will and will not make it at the next level, when they have the time to fully evaluate the kid (yes there are exceptions).  IF we offer every kid who had a good high school experience we would not have scholarships available for the top talent we all demand and would never win a game.  At this point the fact is Boone is not a FBS D1 QB but could change with size, skill, better form, and experience he could get at a smaller school or JC.  No question he was a great high school QB and had great numbers.  I would have loved to have had him at my high school.  Players in this state and even in nation would dye for the local college exposure he has received.  With the top recruits on his team like Chase Roberts top receiver this year, stand out kicker Kyle Thompson, projected top D-player in the state for 2020 Bodie Schoonover and a top prospect for 2022 Noah Moeaki they have had all the local college coached at their games along with out of state looks.  Not just the staff but also Kyle Whittingham (who someone said he or his brother was a high school friend of his fathers) and Kalani Sitake themselves.  Not to mention Garrison Grimes who is a great player whos father is the OC for BYU has been at almost all the games.  I have not seen a kid get more evaluation time then him.  Is this not what a PWO is for.  Give them a chance to come in and get experience running the practice squad and other teams O.  This will give them a chance to get experience to develop and even show their stuff.  As someone put it best in the post on Braedon Wissler from Bingham - it is very rare (but it happens for athletes).  This person gets it and knows this is why kids transfer to other schools when they realize they won’t get a chance even if they are on scholarship but want to play at that next level.  Perfect example of one of the all-time great BYU quarterbacks at his current level who didn’t make it at the next level.  John Walsh optimistic left college as a junior to enter the NFL Draft. Although he was drafted in the 7th round by the Cincinnati Bengals, he was cut shortly thereafter and never played in the National Football League.  If he would have stayed and played another year at BYU, he could have possibly moved up higher on the all-time great list at BYU.  If players, like in this example Boone who seems like he wants to play, then he should go to somewhere like Montana State North and have a great experience.  Why put that pressure on a kid let him enjoy college football and actually play.  If they just want a scholarship then go to Hawaii (paradise) and enjoy the experience, free college and a shot playing from the practice squad.  Who knows when things shake down a scholarship may open up and get an offer somewhere he wants to go but again why not go where they will play, if that is what they want.  Let’s get the top talent so we can beat the top talent teams we are playing now.  If you want your player to get exposure hire Will Snowden, he works wonders and gets scholarship offers. Go Cougs!
