Of course. More to the story....below.

There were many iterations and there was a lot verbal.  There was a plan pre-D1, which may be some very early example of what you show.....it may be some iteration of some plan that was an offshoot of this.  I know that the money was much larger than what you indicated and if BYU/TH played it accurately it would have been the same as Utah.  BYU was not willing to work with the donors to make it happen, it was a "give us the donation and step aside" vs let's work together to get BYU to D1.  There were glaring differences in how BYU and Utah approached this, one was a team effort the other was defensive in nature and not wanting to have others involved.

You say "I also don’t think he intended to put in as much at Utah as he ended up putting in, but once the ball got rolling he was all in. Could that have happened at BYU? Maybe! But where Utah ended up and where the BYU offer was are not the same."  It would have happened, if you doubt it look at Utah....money was put up.  How do I know what BYU would have recieved?  I know some of the donors ready to step in (me).

Say what you want, BYU blew its chance.  They knew BYU would take longer to get to D1 because they did not have support of the university and potentially the AD.  Utah had support, they had the money, they brought in donors, Larry Scott was invovled in looking at the plan to add other universities from the P12 to D1 in the coming years.  BYU was not willing work together like other universities do with donors.

Seeing an email at some point does not tell the full story.  There was more than one, there was verbal dialogue.  In the end it never got off the ground as BYU did not show real interest in working together to build something special and be a first mover ont he west coast (we would have been the the furthest west D1 program and been a first mover)....that honor now goes to Utah.  Happy to go direct on DM with other questions, I will reach out.

In the future I would recommend not making assumptions or shots at people you don't know (insuating his son could not get into BYU, not accurate and not cool).  He is a great kid and person, not only that he is great friends with BYU's starting QB.
