I've just heard several of the local radio personalities make jokes- but they also make jokes about all of their counterparts. Gordon Monson, (formerly) Spencer Checketts, Bill Reilly, Gunther, Ben Andersen, David James, etc.
I met Wrubell briefly- one time- and he seemed polite. I wouldn't blame him if he had a healthy ego. (He's earned it.) He's been the voice of BYU football AND basketball for two decades (?) and he's done done a very formidable job.
I would imagine that MOST people in the sports broadcasting business have healthy egos. That line of work would attract a lot of alpha-males, and so I wouldn't expect that there are many who are openly warm and fuzzy- especially the good ones. (Except for Vin Scully- I went to a farewell event the year that he retired- and he was SO warm and gracious to every single person there.)
I wasn't besmirching Wrubell at all.
(I went to high school with Spence Checketts... and he was already arrogant then. He's actually mellowed out slightly- as a result of some of his personal issue.)
